Liturgy of the Presidential Investiture

Presentation of the Mace of the University

After the President shall have been elected, the Chairman of the Board of Regents shall formally conduct a presidential investiture liturgy. The Chairman delivers and turns over the Mace of the University to the President, thereby conferring upon him all the prerogatives and responsibilities of the presidency of Pamantasan. The Mace of Authority symbolizes the authority of the president and is the symbolic source of power of his executive acts and his administration.

It was on 10 February 1968 when the Mace of Authority was first turned over to the first president of PLM, Dr. Benito F. Reyes, by then-Mayor Antonio J. Villegas. The Mace was last presented to a former president, lawyer Adel A. Tamano, on 31 January 2008 by Justice Justo P. Torres Jr., chairman of the Board of Regents.

With the election by the Board of Regents of Dr. Ma. Leonora V. de Jesus on 18 September 2014 as university president, the PLM community looks forward to another presidential investiture after seven (7) years.

Presentation of the Academic Collar

Prior to induction and investiture and the turn over of the Mace, the Academic Collar is first presented to the president. The academic collar carries the medallion which is the golden seal of Pamantasan. This represents the yoke by which the scholar pursues his quest for truth, and the burden of academic leadership endowed with vision and committed to the mission of the University. This presidential collar embraces the traditions and values of the academic community which he is sworn to lead. Upon presentation, he is anointed, thus: "As you wear it, wear it with dignity and pride, like other presidents of the University before you."
