Officers of the PLM Batch ’68 Development Foundation, Inc. led by their president, Mr. Richard P. Prado, recently donated ten (10) brand new computer units to the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM).
PLM President Atty. Adel A. Tamano accepted the alumni donation in simple yet meaningful hand-over program at the main library’s internet station last May 5. The donation brings to a total of 44 computers now available for free use at the internet station of the University Library.
Ms. Rebecca Jocson, university librarian, and the rest of the University Library staff were also on hand to accept the donation. Thirty one (31) other computers are scattered in other PLM libraries and sections such as the following: Graduate School, Ospital ng Maynila Medical Library, Dr. Norman R. Dahl Memorial Medical Library, Circulation Section, and the Health Science Library.
President Tamano, in his usually jolly stance, thanked the alumni for their thoughtful gesture but was quick to “ask for more” from the donors. While the university president regarded the alumni’s act of giving as a kind way of reconnecting to their alma mater, he also requested them to give more to the present crop of students. He asked them to “please come and mentor our students.”
The President also reminded the alumni that PLM will always be their home. To make good his words, he ushered the alumni to the PLM Pride Hall – the University’s gallery of excellence where the symbols of achievements and accolades conferred on the university are displayed. Inaugurated last March 16, the Pride Hall is one of the latest development projects completed under President Tamano’s almost two-year-old administration.
“Looking back to our student days when there were not many resources to enhance our intelligence and innate capabilities, we are certainly convinced that the PLM students now are blessed with an administration that puts premium in upgrading the resources of the University,” said the batch leader. Mr. Prado disclosed that “our donation is just a simple token of our appreciation to the Pamantasan. We intend to pour in more donations for the University,” Mr. Prado quipped.

Mangawang, vice president for external affairs; Rebecca Macinag-Cabrera, secretary; Norie Tubigan-Bagaporo, assistant secretary; Lolita Santos-Torres, treasurer; Teresita Padilla-Dillera, assistant treasurer; Divina Leonor-Ramos, auditor.
More Book Donations
Earlier in October and December 2008, six boxes of classical and reference books, and some 216 volumes of medical and health science-related books were sent to the University courtesy of Dr. Fernando B. Perfaz and the Norris Medical School of the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, respectively.
Dr. Perfas is a PLM alumnus belonging to Batch ’67 who has turned book author with over 30 years of experience in the field of chemical dependency. He is the author of the book Therapeutic Country Social Systems Perspective published in 2004 in the U.S.A.
Meanwhile, the book donations from the University of Southern California were facilitated through the efforts of another alumni duo: Ms. Catalina Butler, librarian of the Children’s Hospital, and Mr. Dong Vatier. The medical and health science books have been added to the PLM Medical Library, found on the 2nd floor of the Gusaling Katipunan.
